** Public Service Announcement **

For Fellow Rogers Internet Users
If you call in and tell them you are a university student and would like to sign up for the "student internet special" - there is a 25% discounted rate on whatever you are currently paying - probably something close to $40-50/mth.
All you have to do is give them your Student #!
[note: they do not check if your # is legit, nor do they ask what Uni you are affiliated with]

Nothing changes, you do not get any special additional features/options.  Just the same things you have right now, but for 25% cheaper!
This promo is supposed to run for about 8 mths, but no guarantees!

It's been a really long time since I've done one of these...
I've been so involved with my school work, I think this is the toughest term I've ever had.  Who said 4th year was the easiest? :s

I've done a lot of soul searching in terms of what I want to be in the future.
Am I the only one that feels as though I'm short of time?  Now that I'm nearing the end of University, shouldn't I know, or atleast have a good idea of where I want to be within the Marketing Industry?

I've spent the last few days involved with various AMA functions - talking to top executives, and successful marketers who have been where I am, hopefully they can provide some guidance.
The time I've invested and my efforts did not go wasted, I was able to walk away with a contact from the AMA Board of Directors who will sit down and essentially "mentor" me in hopes of helping me figure out where I'd like to work.  I schmoozed with top execs from the "telecomm wars" [AMA professional conference] this morning...this is the first time I schmoozed!!
*clap*clap*

Lastly, I was able to walk away with a contact from Saatchi & Saatchi [one of the worlds Top Advertising Agencies].  This girl is a former AMA board member herself, and York alumni!  The team seemed really nice, my questions to her had nothing to do with whether I could get a job there; I wanted to know how she knew advertising was for her.
Instead, she told me to contact her about a summer internship, applications are accepted in Feb/March.
keep your fingers crossed! **

Latest inspiration:
I was walking to class the other day when I noticed a student holding a clear garbage-like bag with 3-4 identical but different sized canvas paintings.
I also noticed she was blind..

I just had to know, if she painted those, so I asked.
This girl turned out to be a visual arts major, she's blind..and painted some of the most beautiful paintings I've ever seen.  Granted I'm no art connoisseur, but I appreciated her work, and I think I appreciated it even more because I knew how hard she worked to get where she is today.

With this struggle to find my place within the market, I found myself questioning what makes me fundamentally different from everyone and anyone else (professionally).  I began to question if I can do it, if I can be where I, like many others envision myself to be (not just any marketer, a top exec for a successful company).  This girl fought her own battles and unknowingly ended up inspiring a lost girl who was just trying to make sense of herself.  She will be my reminder to persevere, to never let anyone tell me I can't do something or be someone.

Rogers sucks!
I'm frustrated with Rogers wireless.  Why you ask? Because for some stupid reason, I decided to sign a 2 year contract with them..they charge me oodles for phone calls I never made, gave me a mediocre plan and a shitty phone, and in exchange for all this, I hand over my money.  Sound like a good deal?

My phone's this ugly lil Nokia that I've had for about 6 mths now and whenever I'm talking to someone it drops my calls!  When I asked if I can 'upgrade' my phone, they told me I had to wait until 2006!!  2006 with this crappy ass phone??  I mean really, is it too much to ask for a phone that actually works!?!  I don't care for digicams, fancy phone books and colour screens...
I just want a phone that will allow me to make outgoing calls, receive incoming calls, rings, and notifies me when I have voice msgs.
But from my experience with cell phones, this is clearly asking for a lot!

My options are to:
a) buy a new phone from the lost and stolen program
which basically only offers all the shittiest phones on the market [eg. my phone's on the list]..
b) Connect [an old] rogers phone onto my line [which is the best option]
..but it has to be with a phone that was previously hooked up on the Rogers network...does anyone know of someone that has a retired rogers phone they no longer want? [will buy it off them as long as it works!]

So while everyone else is jumpin' on the technological bandwagon of sleek, compact, multi-featured cellular products, I'm lagging behind and struggling to find a phone that does what it was originally programed to do back in the ice-age. ^.^

who knows, marketeers say phone's are getting so cheap to make, they predict they will eventually make disposable cell phones...one's that you can purchase from vending machines for $5 or $10, use and throw out.
..but what happens if the disposable phone's a lemon, like mine?
Do you think this idea will fly?

Alright, I've been neglecting this blog for a while..partly because of midterm exams,..but mostly because I've been rather reluctant to share some of my thoughts lately.  My mother once told me - "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."  Of course, we all have our ranting moments, but I've encountered more then enough recently, and perhaps I didn't want to add to the 'bitter 'n angry persons' bitch-a-thon.  However, I did feel the need to air some dirty laundry this morning, so now, it's my turn...

If there's one thing that I can't stand, it's fake hypocritical people! [biggest pet peeve of all time!]  This type of person comes in two groups:

Group 1 - this is the person that admits to being fake, knows their superficial, and is perfectly okay with that.  [although this person is irritating, they are honest about it with themselves,..and so, I have some tolerance for people in this category group]

Group 2 - [this is the worst!] people within this group, are completely unaware of their superficial exterior, and so, are also hypocritical themselves.  They tend to believe they're sincere/real people, yet talk smack about others behind their back.  All I have to say is: if you got something to say, why don't you just say it to their face?

My manager for instance (is one of the many) from Group 2.  She thinks were all idiots and that she's so clever because none of us "know" she's talking about us... yet, she's the one that looks like the fool.  But when confronted in person, she takes on a very different tone,...almost scared and apologetic...where'd all the attitude go?

It's always the people that seem really nice, friendly, and conservative that end up being the worst 2-faced people you could ever meet...although there are some exceptions!

At the other end of the spectrum are those that are extremely blunt.  Like my girl, Jane.  She's hilarious and I love her to death.  Although she could use some discretion (eg. learn to be a bit more tactful), she's honest, and real - I respect that!  If she doesn't like you, she'll tell it to your face, no fake smiles, superficial hugs, or acting all chummy with you.  Might sound cold to some, but, be consistent!  If your going to talk about people - don't turn around and be "all friendly" to them right after.

On a brighter note - I went to the Metro Rollathon to support  Child Find Ontario last night, and it was a blast!  I hadn't rollerbladed since Grade 8, and I really didn't plan on rollerblading anytime in the near future (might explain my "graceful" 'lil fall), but to do it with 2 of my best girls was worth it.  We made a memorable  re-make of the intro to BEVERLY HILLS 90210 (courtesy of Video Guy & Lonn's superb mp3 selection )  Ava had the funniest! It was a cross between seducing the camera, and a sarcastic 'mmmm' - yukky commercial food look.  We bladed until 1 am (clean up), tied up any loose ends at the office, and then we all left for some late night diner at 3am...didn't even get home til 5!  [I hope this off-sets any weight/calories I might have lost while blading!]  Nothing better then eating and sleeping!   hahaha
